Default Gen VI BBC Merc 454 MPI questions

i am about to start my engine swap- taking out a 2000 7.4 L 310 hp and putting in a warmed up 1998 454 Mag, originally rated at 385 hp. Before I do this, I wanted to check the torque curve for both engines to make sure that I dont have any problems with getting out of the hole.

Does anybody have a source for the HP and torque curves of these engines ? The 454 385 hp is basically the Gen VI 454 HO crate motor, forged pistions, square ports etc.

Also, in tearing down the motor, I tried to remove the front timing cover. My book says it just pops off, but I found other references that indicate that the oil pan must be removed first: since I did not remove the oil pan and just forced it off, I cracked the casting at the bottom. So, can this part actually be removed with the oil pan in place? And does anybody have a Gen VI timing cover they want to sell me cheap ?

You should remove the oil pan first. Otherwise you'll break the timing chain cover... You can buy a brand new timing chain cover from Teague Marine for only $52.

I should have a stock Gen VI cover. I'll check Monday. PM me an email address and I'll send pictures. $25.00 plus the ride. You might want to put a new o-ring gasket in it, they should be available through auto parts store, or let me know if you want me to provide that also.
