Default 454/502 harmonic balancer

Can anyone tell me if I use a damner from a gen 5 454 on a gen 6 HP500?? Are these the same or will i need one from a 502?? thanks for any help

If you mean a "dampner", (although I have cussed them too ), the 502 takes a different one than the 454. It will physically bolt on, but the balancing is different for the larger pistons of the 502.

lol.. yes I meant dampner.. thanks, that is a lot of help..I was told by a couple of people they should be the same due to both engines are externally balanced from the factory..

WR,

Dont want to start an argument, but the 502 and 454 dampers are the same. GM Performance Parts, ATI, and Fluid Damper (even though I dont use thiers) all show the same damper for 454 & 502 I know that the flywheels are slightly different balance for steel vs cast cranks on the HP 454's but the dampers are all the same.

Bill,thanks for your input...a friend of mine looked at the part #s on one of Merc"s web sites and confimed the same thing you said..same part # for the 454 and 502...I compared the two and cannot see any visual differences..(although I kno u couldn't see weight differences)..

Hmmm, I suppose I stand corrected. Perhaps I was confusing it with the flywheels.

I was really confused, about 1/2 of everyone I asked said one or the other..I wasn't sure what to do..Hey Budman I do still have that set of Gils..I was kinda holding them for one of the guys who bought one of my short blocks, he said he wanted them..but its been 2 weeks and no word..let me know

It's doubtful I am going to be able to use the set I bought from you - had too many problems getting them to line up. I was bummed. I just thought I would let you know in case you come across someone who needs both sets for a twin application.
