Looking at 94 29 foot scarab just want some input
I am looking at buying a 94 29ft scarab with twin 235hp. The boat has about 500hrs on it and seems to have been maintained well. Just wanted a little input on the goods and bads, or things to look for. He said the only thing is that one of the motors runs a couple hundred more rpms then the other he was thinking it needed carbs rebuilt. any input on that. I was thinking maybe throttle cable adj. Thanks for any help

Congrats and welcome to OSO. What kind of input are you looking for? The question on the rpm difference? It doesn't sound like you've actually driven the boat or had a sea trial? You'll want to pin the sticks to WOT and check the difference in RPM's. If there's a diff. then check cables to make sure that both are getting full open. If they are then there's ather things to get into then, filters, pumps, pickups, rebuilds etc. As for the boat itself I'm assuming that it's a small block boat with Alphas? Check the gimbles and steering for play and slop. I would call your insurance co before you purchase it and first check and see if they'll write a policy on the boat and if they require a survey which would be a well spent couple hundred even if they don't. That will give you a good idea of what condition the hull is in. It's 17 years old and 500 hours is getting very near overhaul time if not there already. All depends also on what the cost of it is. Good entry hull, should see 50's maybe 60 mph on a good day. Good luck and stay safe!

Not sure what motors it has but even with 260 small blocks it will never see 60. That's a heavy boat for small blocks and i never heard of 235's. I had a 26 with small blocks and it wouldn't hit 60. I wouldn't worry about rpm diff.

i didnt think 235 hp sounded right for the motors either but thats what he told me. He said they are 350 mags. I have not checked the boat over yet it is in ohio and i live in michigan so i am getting a time set up to see it and test it.
