Default powder coating???

I have the harding marine style valve covers low shine. I would like to powder coat these and wondered if you need to sand them with a fine grit paper or pad before powder coating. I expermented with some other parts with and without sanding and the durability seems to be the same.

Thanks,
John

Have them sand or bead blasted. It will give a nice texture for the powder coat to stick to.

That would be me. I purchased a powder coat gun etc. It works great and very simple to use. Just wanted to practice on some parts prior to doing intakes, valve covers, etc.

Thanks for the help.

If covers already have been powder coated, just scuff with scotch brite

I do powder coating and for the best adhesion I always sandblast everything, even if it was powdercoated previously. If you sandblast/beadblast the parts it makes it alot more durable
