Default Oil coming out of exhaust

Engine Guru's:
I have just developed a problem with my new engine. Oil is coming out of port side thru transom exhaust. Engine only has 10 hrs on it. The engine has had a slight miss between 1300 and 3000 rpms--totally goes away higher than 3000 rpms. Now oil is coming out of port exh BAD. Motor is a 540 shortblock, NA, Dom 1050 carb, KE exh. Checked the plugs and number 5 was super wet with carbon and oil.

Checked the wire and OK.
Replaced the plug and NO HELP.

What would cause oil coming out of exh?????????????????
Broken ring???????????

You need to do a leak down test. That will tell the story. Probably lifted a ring land in the piston.

How do you know it is oil and not fuel? They both present the same in the water. Does the engine have significant blowby out the breathers?

then why only on one side and one hole ? this motor, i imagine has multi piece oil ring so either it was misassembled and trapped the expander over a rail or it broke a land like eddie says. either way... a leak down is on your list of things to do followed, i imagine , by a comprehensive disassembly .

Default more info

I pulled the exh manifold today and OIL is definately coming from the #5 cyl out the exhaust. That rules out fuel and cooler problems. I'm pulling the motor.

It has to be a broken ring--RIGHT???????

I'm getting really good at working on this motor. This will be the 5th or 6th time the motor has been pulled, and motor only has a total of 30 hrs on it. Man am I lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!

luck has nothing to do with it. if this is your 5th time into this motor then you need a fresh set of eyes and hands to work on it. who ever is doing the work is missing something very basic or lacks the necessary skill set to measure it and assemble it correctly. you aren't talking about big ultimate hp numbers here... you are talking about fundemental basic high school auto shop short block structure. no magic at all. get someone else to put it together this time...
