Default what should i expect, first time owner in FL.

Looking at buying a 25' Baja Outlaw this winter. The boat will be used and more than likely a 2000/2001 year model as that's what i see in my price range.

Looking at a close to factory boat with a single engine so under 500hp and under 80mph.

This is my first boat owned in my name, what are rough average cost of insurance. I know it varies greatly but just looking for a idea of what i am looking at. I am 29 yrs old if that helps and it if lowers the rate i have no issue going to a high performance boating class.

Any ideas are great help as i have no idea.

Thanks.

I think you will be under 2000/yr.

But - there are so many milllions of variables my guess is just throwing **** on the wall.

Lol.....hey its better than anything i had. Like i said i am blind to this part so any idea at all is a start.

Thank you!

Also if anyone has any referance to who to go through. I would like it to be a FL company or someone who is not so far away that it seems non-personal.

With today's technology you can have a personal relationship with a broker even though they are a thousand miles away. We do it everyday. A very good percentage of our clients are on the East Coast and in FL, we are 2 miles from the CA coast... I am sure there are many on here that will tell you the miles between us and them don't hinder the level of personal service they get. As long as your broker is responsive, friendly and willing to be a source of advice for you and provide you with what you need, then if I were you, I would be open to someone out of FL.

The performance boat market in FL is small and not many people doing it. In fact 4 of the 5 main brokerages I know are not in FL....

You're in luck that your boat will likely fit with some of the non performance carriers. If you try to put a 25 Outlaw into a high performance program you're going to pay far more in premium than necessary.

I would recommend getting a quote from the following on that boat:

- American Modern www.amig.com
- Progressive www.progressive.com (not a huge fan of them but they are an option)
- Allstate
- Your home/auto carrier

I think American Modern is going to be your best bet. If you're adamant about having a local agent then AMIG can direct you to someone in their area that can write a policy for you for their program.

As long as the person is honest, trusting, and most important fast acting if anything is needed then a FL rep is not a must. I don't want to use my auto group as they are not a large based company and actually not even sure if they have boat coverage. Like you i am not a progressive fan either.

I have no problem with giving you my info and seeing what you can do when the time comes this winter. I just want to be sure i get coverage that is needed as i know FL has a fee extra policey part with hurricanes and things like that.

500 bucks a year for 91 fountain with twins. From foremost. Older than yours but its bigger and probably goes just as fas if not faster. Like others have said talk to stacy as well. Start getting quotes.

But least you are thinking ahead, how many boats specially hi pro boats up for sale after a year or two? Alot, wanna know why?

Because they don't think about the insurance cost, fuel cost, maint cost, reg fees, the cost to outfit the boat with ropes and saftey equipment. And last but not least a descent tow vehicle. What people see is a boat in their price range that looks and sounds cool. But they dont factor in the other 1-2 grand that goes into just getting her ready, then the fuel cost in the boat and the truck.

Lol ya i have seen people do what you listed first hand.

I want all my ducks in a row. My current Ford Explorer is being traded for a Tahoe with 4x4 next month actually to asure getting in and out of some slippy ramps and be able to handle the tow weight with much more ease.

I know my maintance cost and i always laugh at those that don't think about it or say i will just deal with it when it comes lol. As far as safety equipment i have looked into cost just incase but most used boats i look into come with it but just incase not i do know what i am in store for then.

The boat will be the last peice in everything for me. That's one reason i am waiting a bit and i was very unsure of insurance pricing but other than that i feel good about making my first purchase.

My credit is middle road and getting better (dumb early 20's choices) but my driving history is good and have no flaws for the better part of 5/6 years.
