Question 454 carb to 496 HO

Has anyone here taken out a 454 carb (330hp) and did a 496 ho repower? It looks like this is what I want to do, and im starting to research on what people ran into when doing it. My plan is finding a low hour 496 take-out and replacing my 454 because I want more hp and efi. Thanks in advance for any info.

Thinking the same thing here for my 242LS. My plans are to change the instrumentation at the same time which covers most of the issues that I have heard of.

Obviously drive gearing, prop pitch etc is part of this upgrade but what else? I havent seen a write-up of this kind of repower or even an article.

Gearing is typically the same since the application of both engines is virtually the same. 1:50 is so common that either engine would be paired with that gear ratio.
Propping would be changed since the power level would pull more.

I'm not exactly clear on what year the SmartCraft system starts on the 496HO. Possibly all years since that engine has only been out since 2001 and the SmartCraft started in 2000 but I'm not sure. The point of this is that the instrumentation of the recipient boat may not interface with the newer engine senders so the guages or display would have to be changed to read engine data.

Most other things that I know of, what little that is, is plug and play.
