Default What water pickup to use?

I am changing my 90 baja 235 over to a low water pickup due to the corrosion issue around the plastic water neck. I'm just not sure what to use. West marine sells a bronze egg shapped that looks like a cheese grader on the inlet side. Is this ok to use? I have the size and everything all picked out just wasn't sure if this is right. If so where do I mount it? I was thinking about 18" from the transom and 8-12" from the center of the boat.

Thanks for the help.

The pickup from West Marine is not the thing to use. You need something like this:

Adjustable pickup

Non-adjustable:

You want to make sure that it will have an unobstructed supply of water. Don't mount it to close to the center of the boat where it may disrupt the water going to the prop. Anywhere from 12-16" out from center of the keel should work. Probably just outside of the inner strake.
I will take a few pics of some pickups when I get back in the shop.

Thanks. I wait to build and install it so I can see where to put it.
