I would like to know what the pros and con's are for either restoring the gelcoat on my 1997 - 38ft Scarab (bubbled blistered gelcoat and spider webs with extremely oxidized finish due to lack of maintenance for quite some years) -OR- painting.

I understand after reading some info about the professional race boats have been using (?) Acrylic Enamel (?) that looks great and has shining smooth finish easy to clean - only draw-back being the painted finish cannot withstand being in the water more than 2 weeks or separation occurs.

Any been-there-done-that stories or years of experience from forum readers here would be appreciated.

Emron Paint , from the waterline up........ Used on all aircraft and was used by Wellcraft Marine for many years.Will stand up to any abuse you can give it ---- Expensive!!!!! Do not use below the waterline... I had a 34 scarab III that I got new from the factory with a custom fade paint job from gold to dark brown and it held up great..I have Emron on my 38 also.

If you go ahead with that make sure you get the boat clearcoated over the paint job of your choice.....
