Default Fuel pump push rod broke or cam lobe flat??

was running boat around 3000rpm and it acts like fuel tanks ran dry.Deffinatly has fuel, new mech. fuel pump, pulled fuel pump and the push rod for pump does not move up or down. Possiable broke rod or flat cam lobe. Cam might have 25 hrs.Boat will run with fuel poured in carb but wont pump fuel. Has anyone ever broke one of these rods??

I had the same thing happen to me. After 3500 felt like it ran out of gas. The cam has a liner over it and if it gets worn or cracked the rod wont make a full pass and cant keep up at high rpms. This is with fuel pump mounted on the sea water pump. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? How does the gear lube look?

So do you have a block mounted fuel pump? If so is it possible the rod is stuck in the block in the raised position and not even riding on the cam at this point. Need to get the rod out to see what's going on. The rod may be bent.

How about your pulley belt. Could it be slipping?

Is it a billet cam? Did you use a fuel pump pushrod designed for use with a billet cam? Where it has the bronze tip on it.

Exactly what I was thinking. RMBUILDER told me to run them on the cams I have purchased from him. Never any problems.

From another thread...
Billet Cams, must use a Bronze tipped fuel pump push rod.
Comp sells a bronze tip fuel pump push rod part # 249-4607

Good luck
