Default 272 SR1 Intake/Carb upgrade advice needed

I am wanting to do some bolt on upgrades through the off season. The boat has twin 454 mags with weber carbs. All stock.

I just picked up 2 sets of EMI thunder for it. I also want to change carbs and intakes. I am looking for advice on what carbs and intakes to run that will go well with the exhaust upgrade.

I am also wondering if anyone knows whether a high rise intake with holley carb will fit under the stock engine hatch.

Thanks in advance!!!

with a weiand stealth intake, holley carb and 500 hp flame arrestor i had about an inch or so of clearance, the heads are going to be your limiting factor now, a nice set of 781 oval ports with the exhaust and intake will make a nice package in that boat

Will the rectangle port heads on these not make power? I thought they had larger intake ports than the large ovals?

You can make plenty of power with your stock heads. The Factory intake is fine as well. Add a 420 or comparable cam and maybe change the carb to a holley and a 1" spacer and use roller rockers and you'll add an easy 60 hp per engine to your boat.

Well...the motors are coming out. So maybe a cam upgrade is in order as well. I am still in for new intakes, I just have concerns as to whether something like a performer rpm air gap will be to tall to fit under the hatch......

I think you'll be fine with the airgap. I don't think its a lot heigher than your stock intake.

Talk about a can of worms!!! There is so much rust I am finding here I am now really concerned with the motors. I think I may have to tear into them for a look inside even though they run great. I am now afraid of rust/rot in the water jackets.

Also, the stock exhaust is so bad and was leaking internally I am afraid the exhaust ports on the heads may be rusted away. Anyone else see something like this before?

I don't even run in salt!!
