Default 525efi vs 525efi with Whipple resale value

Does having a whipple on a 525efi help or hurt the value of the boat?

Thanks!

Considering the kits are about 15k each , I would say it increases value, but it also limits the amount of potential buyers, so it may be a harder sell.

My question would be; was the engine built around using the Whipple, or was it a bolt on after wards?
I am by no means, questioning the Whipple, if it's boosted power the engine is not going to go the distance of the stock 525 efi.

What would be the deal breaker for me would be needing premium fuel. Since there is no place to purchase it on the water here (Puget Sound) that I know of that would mean I'd have to put the boat on the trailer everytime I needed fuel (it takes a lot of 5-gallon cans to fill a sportboat). As far as the additional stress on the 525 from the Whipple I do not have the knowledge to respond to that. With about 5% increase per pound of boost the performance would be awesome!

imo, even if the engine has a ton of hours, and needs a refresh,it is still worth more with the whipple.

I would be leary of any boat that has had a super charger/ blower on it. If not set up properly, the engine could be short lived. On the fip side, if you plan on having it re-built, it's nice to have the hardware to make some power.

Did merc make a 525 that was a s/c motor? I looked at a profile that had 525 badges on the motors and it looked to be factory s/c not aftermarket? I don't know if this what bluber is asking about or was this a dealer instal after the fact?
