OK. Maybe I had that backwards. The way the guy stopped in his tracks when he approached the other driver, I believe he may be been confronted with a pistola.

Stupid. Youtube is full of these pointless pull offs.
Its more about traction and momentum. Load ballast in the back of a 1/2 ton and it could prob drag an empty bed, tuned diesel around just the same.
If the connection is not perfectly level, the higher hitch has an instant advantge lifting the rear of the other.
The stunt of dragging the other down the hill and around was Hillbilly stupid with icing. Try explaining how the rears collided when the towed truck does not get stopped before running into the lead truck.......
