Calling Billy Martin Jr.
Billy, I recently found this thread on Bounty Hunter, which I found very interesting, especially some of the photos of the 39'.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/o...ck-dayz-3.html
I watched your father race in the Cowes Torquay in 1978 and loved his 35 Cig. I was then on a family holiday in Florida in April 79 and my father took me to 188th Street. We went to the Magnum factory and the Cigarette factory pretty cool to get a guided tour around both. Your Dads 39 bubble deck was under construction there, as per the pics below. Later in 2010, I was fortunate enough to race on the boat a couple of times, shes still in really good shape and I believe she has recently been sold to someone in the Middle East, where the boat now resides.
The reason for starting the thread is that I have always wondered what happened with the 39. Your Dad must have had her commissioned and then sold the boat pretty much straight after it was completed??? I was at the factory in April 79 and the boat was clearly being built for Billy Martin. However, in August of that same year, the boat arrived in Poole, UK to do the Needles Trophy, before racing in the Cowes Torquay, but now it was owned by Michel Maynard. Why was the boat sold so soon to Michel??
