Default how much for these 496 builds?

in the future i like to buy or build a 496 marine motor. ateco has 496 550hp for $9900.00 454 reconditioned block scat crank. gm heads
http://www.atecoengines.com/enginesdl.php

whites racing has 496 they use dart blocks but use , probe pistons, and alum procomp heads 500hp for $6200.00
http://whiteperformance.com/marine_eng_WIDE.html

or should i just find some good used 454 blocks and build one with 550hp
or are these prices from these shops good deals?

That's pretty high I can get 540 long block. Forged crank JE piston'S upgraded bolts with pan, balancer hydraulic roller. With GM heads 575 hp. $7200 with Dart block $7300 Boetie block. Everything brand new except 088 heads that have iconel valves. Better get a lot more for $9900... Actually I take the little high statement back that's just rapping someone. You can build a motor with practically the best of everything for 12-13 grand.

Dart doesn't make a 496 base block that I can see. Is it a 502 bore and stroke or something? The 496 in my knowledge is a block of its own not interchangeable with anything else.

Dart 454, 4.25" bore with a 4.380" stroke crank.

Homemade ones usually are when made from used 454 blocks. New from merc their not. I wouldn't think they would take a new Dart block and punch it out .060" out of the box. Then again I never seen anything on that link stating they used Dart blocks, maybe he called them or maybe they use used Dart blocks!
