Forged 454 crank work in 502 block??.
My 454 block turned out to be NFG so I picked up a 502 block today from a board member and wonder if I can use my good forged 454 crank in the 502 block?? It is a 1piece rear seal and stock 4" stroke.......
502 block is gen 6 and 454 was a 1995 454 mag engine with non roller cam.... As long as its a 1 piece seal am I good to go??? Thanks..TBF

I would deffinately check into the balance end of it. The extra weight of the larger pistons is going to need to be figured in the balance somewhere. I do believe the flywheel and balancer are the same. If they have to add mallory weight to the crank it can be very expensive. If your buying new pistons try to find light ones which would mean less weight would have to be added to the crank if necessary.

Thanks fellas, yes, I have to buy pistons/rods and getting a whole rotating kit is not a bad idea at all? If I do that then why not go for a 540? I am afraid of reaching the limits of my stock bravo 1 drive and really want to build a mostly trouble free and reliable combo........ 550HP is my goal and I should be able to get there just fine with a 502 short block.
As far as balancing goes, the stock 6.135 dimple rod/forged piston combo weighed in at a porky 1820 grams...... That was with the old rings still on and the rod bearings still in the caps....
New 6.385 H-beam rods weigh around 800 grams and 4.500 pistons with pin weigh about the same.... So the weight is about the same or a little less than the old, forged 4.250 piston and 6.135 rod. I don't know how much the rings and bearings weigh but the weight is not much different so I think the balance won't be a problem? Maybe just drilling a few holes in the counterweights to lighten things up a bit?
My plan is to use the original 454 damper and flywheel as well...... TBF

For sure it will be balanced..... I was commenting that I did not think it would be a big deal to balance as what I have will not be that far off from the factory balance...... that is if the factory balance was good??? TBF
