Default Would You Buy - 2009 F350

I've gotten offered a pretty sweetheart deal on a 2009 F350 I think.

2009 Full 4 Door
4X4
28k Miles
Lease Maintained by US Govt
Tow Package
Brake Controller
Dually
Pueblo Gold (drawback in my mind)
Cloth Seats (drawback in my mind)
Work Truck Wheels (drawback, but for 1000 bucks on Ebay you can buy the Chromes)

No accidents, etc.....

Price - $21k.

That means I'd be giving up my 2000 Lariat 4x4 dually with a 6 speed and 128k miles, but getting this truck with 100k less miles and 9 years newer. I'm hoping I could get 12-13 for my truck.....??

Is this a no-brainer at this price? I don't know much abotu the 6.4's but it's still under warranty for another 30k miles (or about a year). First time I'd ever have a truck under warranty!!!

Original Sticker - 50k.

Thoughts?

Default Keep your old truck

Keep your old truck or get a 5.9 cummins. I had a 6.4 and it is nothing but problems. You have to take the cab off the truck to work on the engine. I traded my 6.4 for the 6.7 and have had even more problems with it. I will be getting a 2013 3500 ram or a sport chassis next.

You only use your dually for hauling the boat; predominately local, right Eric? If so, keep the 7.3L PSD.

IMO.

Id buy it in a heartbeat! I have 4 Psd's 7.3's & 6.4's. some in pickup's & some in med duty works trucks. My 08 F350 6.4 has been bullet proof! 160k on it cant say enough about the engine/ trans combo! I use the chit out of my trucks, hauling everything from my boat to stump cutters to 10k skid steer's. 5.9 cummins are ok of you want somewhat outdated underpowered loud azz diesel. Dont get me wrong I have 2x 5.9's in my med. duty trucks they are good in there application but for a Daily driver or something toy be seen in on a regular basis you cant go wrong with the 09'. Not to mention you wont have to deal with all the dodge front end problem

I had an 09 and traded it in for a 12. 6.4 has bad mpg but overall a pretty good motor. Dealer gave me 31k for mine with 35k miles so at 21k that's a smoking deal. Way more power than your 7.3 and there's a lot more power waiting when you pull all the shtt off. You could drive that truck until the warranty expires and sell it and still make money. You will be amazed of the improvements of these new trucks compared to your 2000, turning, noise, comfort to name a few.

Good point, I forgot to mention that. Hope you dont like in CA. Take the DPF (destroys pickups fast) off & put a normal 4-5" exhaust on it $350 on ebay. still super quiet! as far as the EGR's on 6.4 have been a non issue for the most part but a delete can be installed for about $100 for piece of mind. I run a SCT livewire tuner (not the best one) put down 578 hp on a truck dyno. almost double a stk 7.3 your truck will still be very mild, street friendly will haul anything u hook to without a care in the world.

No Brian - I daily drive mine.

This one has never been towed with and my brother-in-law knows the guy who it is assigned to. He has been meticulous with it.

Jbraun - yeah i recall from prior reading that the gas mileage is awful, but I really dont care. Just doesn't bother me much. My daily commute is only about 12 miles so no big deal to me.

ezstriper - I am guessing that similar to the 6.0's the problem trucks are largely the modded trucks?? I would leave it stock until the warranty passes and then jump on some of the EGR and DPF deletes, etc.....

I'm leaning towards going for it. I figure since it is still in warranty I could keep for a year, if it seems problematic I'll sell it then. I don't think there is much room for me to lose on this considering the price. I am worried my 7.3 could begin some of the nickel/dime stuff. I know it is soon enough going to need shocks, tie rods, and ball joints up front. That's a couple k right there!

You've flipped my thoughts with some of your input. It sounds like a nice deal for your use.

You can paint the wheels for a better look. Check out www.dipyourcar.com . I recently did this to my beater truck's wheels and am pleased with the results.

As for the interior, check out eBay and www.katzkin.com to bring up the interior accouterments a bit.

I had an '08 and it had zero problems. Towed the TG great. However, the 6.4's are when the EPA started tougher regulations on diesels. That thing SUCKED fuel big time, when it goes into re-gen mode, you can almost watch the fuel gauge drop.

I preferred my '05, but it sounds like a good deal. Take off the DPF and chip it, you'll get a better running truck with great mileage.
