Default 6.2 MPI problems

2002 6.2 MPI - bought the boat about a month ago. ~90 hours on the original motor/drive

Short story:
- seems to have a hard time starting and seems slow to get on plane, like its starving for fuel
- brand new fuel filter and fuel/water separator

Full story:

- First couple times out seemed to run great no problems.
- about the fifth time out had a low battery and wouldn't start it turned over a couple times, backfired a couple times but wouldnt actually start
- replaced the battery that day then took the boat out.
- seemed to have a hard time starting, later that day went to get on plane and wouldn't go over about 2000 RPM
- next morning replaced the original fuel filter and fuel/water separator
- started the boat and realized the serpentine belt wasnt moving
- replaced the original 11 year old impeller
- started the boat, seemed like a bit of a hard start, but OK
- ran the boat again, semi-hard start at the dock and a couple times on the water, not like when I first got the boat
- also seems to plane quite a bit slower than when I first got it, feels like its starving for fuel.

Any thoguhts? Help would be much appreciated!

I have been through this with both my engines and each time it was the cap and rotor. If you haven't had these done recently that's a great place to start including wires. It is amazing how crappy a boat will run and have trouble starting with corrosion on the cap.

I should have updated this a long time ago, replaced rotor and cap, did the trick! Never would have expected that on a 2002 MPI engine...

very common problem the HVS caps do not vent at all. Even 2 year old caps are bad in humid weather.
