Volvo Penta 8.1 Limp mode 4000 RPM
I have a friend that has an 8.1 Volvo. It runs great except if he exceeds 4000 RPM.
At 4000 it goes into a limp mode. He goes off of plane idles for a few and then gets back on plane
and no problems except if he goes beyond 4000. He can run 10 miles at 3900. His fluids are all at the proper levels.
Just curious if anyone else has heard of this.

I can tell you this...have a friend with a pair of those...total POS, they have a internal fuel filter made the their EFI pump which you can only change with the pump @ stupid $$$$ his clogged @ 30 hours, we were trying to put boat on plane..started popping, pulled back to idle, changed the pump assembly only to find out took out a piston that quick..volvo would not assist in any way, 3 years old with those hours..my engine guy just redid the engine..was telling me that the 8.1 VERY weak engine....and the other engine blew a head gasket @20 hours..and this is in a non run hard boat....maybe a reason that engine was short lived..
