500hp or rebuild my 454??
boat is a 1988 formula 223ss
I have the original 454 motor in it with over 1000 hours. was out over labor day and busted a wristpin. currently in the process of pulling the motor and finding out how much damage was done and if it can be rebuilt and beefed up a little bit. (boat currently runs 58 gps best speed ive seen) and i want faster to keep up with the rest of the group.
So i have someone that will sell me a 500HP with 500+/- hours on it (just freshened up) for give or take 4500-5000K all electricals included, no exhaust.
or i rebuild mine, bore it out and go through all that process for 2000-2500??
I dont necessarly have a problem spending twice as much for more power but my concern is wether or not the boat will be able to handle that much? I assume it will fit with no issues because its close to the same block (motor mounts didnt change that i know of) and i think it should fit depth wise into the bilge.
Can this smaller/older boat handle that much extra power? I have a bravo 1 drive on it.
What would be the better?
Thanks guys!

You'll probably have quite a bit more than 2000-2500 rebuilding and upgrading yours. ESPECIALLY if it is a 7.4L 330HP version. If its the MAG 365HP, that is a bonus. The heads, and bottom ends are a decent combo for making some more HP. If its the 330HP version, dump it and buy that HP500. But beware, you do NOT want to run your stock iron exhaust manifolds with the HP500. It WILL revert water.
