Default Raylar 496 intake

Has anyone installed a Raylar intake on a stock 496 (8.1) I'm wondering if there was anything to gain by just an intake swap.

Havent tried but doubtful. Raylar also ports the stock unit for less than half the $ of the cool gap.

I doubt it too. It needs to be the whole package. The CMI sportube headers did NOTHING for my old 496 HO except cost me $4,500.

I have them on mine but its the 600 package. Prior to the 600's I ported my intakes, had CNC'd iron heads, cam, bored throttle bodies, whipple flash and roller rockers.

I can tell you unequivocally, that you wont get anything with just the intake. I can also tell you that you would have to port on them for a long time to make it work. Your problem with the stock intake is its a trainwreck. The plenum is on the bottom and I never felt like we got all the debris out from porting...

That being said, with anything remotely close to stock you wont outrun the intake. If you want a blip in power do Raylar roller rockers, the Raylar cam and Whipple reprogram. Probably good for 2-3 MPH on your boat. You cant do anymore cam for two reasons. There isnt really anything available and when it is, you run into PV clearance issues, valve spring issues and the ever present cast 496 pistons...

I've included pictures of the trophy that you will receive if you push the 496 too far.

Looks like raylar offers valve springs for use with the iron heads and their cams.

Wonder what the rockers, springs, and cam would gain you HP wise?

Basically its a HO cam upgrade plus a little bit more.

He is at 375
Probably be at 435/440

Net 60-65 HP

Have to do pistons if he wants more...

So if he started with an HO the above mentioned rockers, springs and raylar cam would only be 15hp?

I have an HO. Just looking to get a little more like everyone else. lol

Can you still run 87 octane with the whipple tune?

Seems like the biggest change on the stage one tune is the raised rev limiter. I don't think I would feel comfortable reving anywhere near 5450. I am more comfortable with the stock 5150 limit.

I don't think there would be much to gain for me on the stage one.
