Thoughts on this 22ft velocity?
What is your opinion on this 22ft velocity? I don't know much about this boat or outboards but it seems like a decent deal on something I could have fun with next summer. The guy got it as a trade and also doesn't know too much about it, other than his claim that it runs and drives good. He's more of a fisherman so this boat has no use for him.
It's a 1984 22 Velocity with an '84 2.4LTR 220HP Mercury and the trailer is included. The price would be $4,000. It needs some cleaning, and the back seat bottom is missing, most likely blew out while trailering. Also claims that it would do 60mph.
So first question is what is it worth? In a perfect world I would like to buy it and fix it up a little and get some use out of it during the summer till I find a bigger boat, at which point I would sell this and hope to recoup my money.
Second, how does this boat handle waves....my main concern is other boats wakes in the ICW, having to slow down every time I hit a wake would be annoying, and If I have to do that I could just use my dads bowrider or my jonboat.
Here are the pics

If it is solid, like not rot in stringers and transom go for it. Being an '84 it should be a SteveStepp built boat. Regal took them over in 86 or 87. I had an '88 with 225 Yamaha and loved it. Used it on Chesapeake with no problems.

not a wave crusher like 24-7's, but a good riding fast boat. i am torn between the regal 23 version of this boat (same hull with molded on platform-regal built-not as solid or valuable as a stepp boat) and a 24 supe-pantera-excalibur. don't tell me where this one is unless you decide you don't want it...btw, you can fish in a fast boat, but you can't go fast in a fishing boat...

I'ld be all over it! I will be in Wilmington next week if you need someone to go look at it with you. If it runs and is structurally sound, it's a good deal! This is the ultimate boat to race in OPA's new class 7 as well.

well I learned a valuable lesson, don't post about a boat you want to buy until you've already bought it. apparently somebody who saw this thread found it and paid over the phone to the guy before I had a chance to get it. I missed out by about 30 minutes.
