Default Rack and Pinion vs Rotary Steering

Hi I am needing to replace my rotary steering helm. The cable length is on the cable so that's simple enough, I would like to go back with a rack and pinion setup. My question is does anybody know if they are the same length or is there a difference due to the helm. I.E. to replace my 204 inch rotary setup will I need a 204 rack and pinion setup? Or 205,203, etc?

Thanks!

Not to hijack, but I have been wondering the same thing as my rotary helm is a bit sloppy. What is the best non hydraulic setup?

The cable length should be the same but you will need to make sure you have clearance on both sides of the steering stalk as the rack bolts up in the center where as a rotary goes back around. Randy
