Default Motors marked "BRE 168" any ideas?

I purchased a Black 34 Sonic from New Jersey with twin reworked Mercruiser 420's. And I pulled the pan off of one off the motors and all the pistons are marked "BRE 168" Any Idea what this means? our who the builder is?

Beck Racing Engines out of Phoenix Az. been to his shop about 14 years ago and he still is in business. he was really trying to break more into the marine end of engine building in the early to mid 2000's but you do not hear much about him nor his engines in the past 5 or 6 years.
