Default Searching for a new tow vehicle...

Looking to purchase a new tow vehicle. I have them narrowed down to either a Ford or Chevy 3500 dual rear wheeled diesel. The question... 6.7 Powerstroke or Duramax? Both engines have under 30k miles.

Thoughts?

I vote Duramax also. Mine isn't even broken in yet (<3k miles) and is getting 2 to 3 mpg better than my bro-in-law's Powerstroke (>50k miles).

Bottom line though, either should do well for you.

I just picked up a 2015 GMC Duramax. Love the truck. Duramax gets my vote.

WOW - Seems like a Duramax forum. Stopped again at the Ford dealer this afternoon and they just traded a very nice F-450 with a 6.7 with 34K miles... Why the hate on the Power Stroke?

I have a 2008 duramax, 152k miles, and it pulls a 38' fountain on a steel trailer quite well. I used the same truck to tow my buddy's 42 Fountain 14 hrs from Va to Ga. Not one hiccup from the motor and the trans never over heated, slipped or hunted for gears. This is all on a lifted truck, 35" tires, ect. The reason for the "Duramax love" is the proven architecture of the motor. It has been virtually unchanged since its inception after the old 6.5L, albeit model changes (LBZ, LB7, LMM, LLY, ect) Each generation provided more power, less fuel burn and the duramax reliability. The 2007.5 -2010 LMM's happen to be my favorite. The duramax also is a wonderful platform to get big power from with just programming (PPE & EFI-Live being two companies I'm familiar with. Do some research, you'll find all sorts of companies offering "fixes" for different Ford issues. IMO- for GM, you'll find less. Unfortunately Ford had to leave the 7.3 in the history books, the emissions from that motor killed it. (Which is too bad, because that thing was great.) Thanks tree-huggers. But I love big power and going fast...I guess that's why I get Christmas cards from the Saudis...
