Default Going to dyno my Procharger head unit, any guesses on how much hp it takes?

Dynoing and tuning my Procharged 540 soon, I expect motor to make 650 hp on its own , and 1100 hp under boost. After its broken in and tuned Normally aspirated before boosting it I am going to turn the blower with motor at 58,000 rpm's blowing thru innercooler and thru a throttled throttle body until it shows 14-15 psi static pressure. Any guesses as to exactly how much hp/ parasitic loss the blower is going to take? I can tell you I expect it to be less than 100 hp
, BSFC numbers tell you alot on these motors, a old school roots type blower uses ALOT of hp, you can see it in the fuel numbers, IE a 1100 hp procharged motor uses about 1200 hp worth of fuel to see that 1100, a 1100 hp roots motor uses about 1300-1350 hp worth of hp. LET THE ARGUMENTS, SPECULATION and guessing begin. Actually we could learn some data and facts from this if everyone will actually have a civil discussion, Smitty

I think the HP loss would be directly related to the restriction between the Procharger and cylinder. What heads, cam, intake, throttle body and intercooler are you running ? I agree BSFC numbers and fuel pounds per hour do offer some info on total HP numbers.

Heres how it will be done Gary . To "dyno" the head unit itself is pretty simple, establish base hp with no blower running motor normally aspirated, then attach procharger to the motor via its drive system but leave the tube blowing the air into the throttle body disconnected. Install my spare throttle body and inlet adapter on discharge tube leaving the innercooler, throttle it until the static pressure is same as my max boost presure at intake manifold, see how much hp the motor loses on its pull. Previously I tested pressure in the boat at blower discharge, innercooler inlet & innercooler outlet vs manifold so I know what typical pressure drop acrossed innercooler and manifold vs inlet is (not nearly as much as what was touted by the guy selling fancy aftermarket innercoolers at the time). I will also moniter the inlet pressure to the innercooler so it doesnt get a "false" reading at outlet as it will be hard to get a accurate pressure reading near the end. This test is to strictly see how much hp (parasitic loss) it takes to turn the procharger loaded the same as when motor is under full boost.

When you say " throttle it until the static pressure is same as my max boost pressure at intake manifold," are you talking about throttling your spare throttle body so the restriction is the same or changing the RPM of the procharger?

Going to have to move alot of air to stuff enough atmosphere through a 540 and a intercooler to double the horsepower by 6000 rpm or so . Sounds like your planning to max out a m3 at say 65% efficiency i wound say your giving up 100hp and some noise -charger life over a m5 ,
They have used those chargers with electric motors to run float bladders de ice airplane wings ect im sure someone out there has some data on power consumption
