really could use your guys knowlwdge
ok so below I attempted to post a pic of my issue if not here's the story anyway......
I am in the process of a top end refresh of my HP 500 carb motor, we called Mecury and they do not currently have any of the OEM lifers in stock, I went to my local reputable speed shop and they told me the stock lifters are Crane and that Crane is out and are not making more at the moment, they than gave me a set of scorpion lifters that they said are a suitable replacement, I noticed some obvious physical differences (plunger heigt) but they pulled out a caliper an assured me they are fine. they said it is an optical illusion.
we compared old to new with push rods in when I got home and there seems to be a notable height difference, I am far from an expert on this your help is greatly appreciated.

I am not an expert either and just recently went through my first engine builds but I just used an adjustable pushrod, once I had decked the heads, block, bought the lifters, rockers, head gaskets, etc.... Then I ordered the pushrods last.......

I recently went through this on my 500efi. Ended up with a Howards set (morels) that were a match to the crane. You are correct the Cranes are way out of stock right now.
