Default Hours reading wrong....Ideas???? please help

Good morning everyone, i have a 1998 Outlaw 25 that i recently flush mounted a Garmen GPS in with the gauges on. When doing so i have to remove all gauges to get a new panel made and installed. When i removed the tach which is where the engine hours run time is located, it read 450 and some change, now after putting it back together its reading 8000 and some. Any ideas as to how this happened and how i can make it right? Looking to sell and upgrade soon and would like this to be right.

Thanks for the help

Don't have a clue unless 12V was left on it. Either that or if its a mechanical one the cog just slipped when moving it around. Either way I don't know how to fix it. I would also say the an 8000 hour boat would be in sad shape no matter who took care of it or everything on it had been rebuilt a few times.

Don't think anyone would believe 8K

Leave it connected to 12 volts for 102 days or so

Hour meters are iffy anyway. A scan tool will confirm engine hours for any potential buyers.

Yea i totally removed the gauge when going through this process and the power main was shut off at the switch as well. So no 12V anywhere. Just weird, guess ill have to get a engine run time print out soon.
