29 ft Scarab with twin 383 strokers
Hi Guys
Not a big poster on this forum. Been a boater for years and years just bow riders. Got a question for the group. Playing with the idea of getting into a 27-29ft performance boat. Don’t see a lot of them around the area.
Drove by a place this weekend and this was sitting out front. 95 29 ft Scarab with twin 383 strokers. Sign says 104 mph. Does this seam accurate horse power vs speed?
Boat doesn’t really look like it’s been taken care of all that well and needs some TLC. Interior looks dingy, gel coat is really oxidized. One of the vents on the stern is smashed. Flat tire on the trailer etc.
Probably more of project than I am interested in.

That is a supercharged boat, the hardware is right with the Blackhawk drives, to get you close to 100, but it would be close. Have you ever messed with superchargers? Has the owner that set it up done it correctly? A lot of what ifs on a boat like this. However, the 29 class is a perfect niche...trailers, stores, docks and takes the waves well.

Yeah pond runner it’s hard to say if it was done right. I just found the craigslist add before I posted and there isn’t much info to go on. It’s not even listed on the website of the guys selling it. There wasn’t any one around when I stopped by to talk to. Never messed around with supper chargers before. Doesn’t seem like the right deal for me.

That looks like a early p29 clone? Wonder if it came with Blackhawks from scarab. As for 100+ I would say maybe 85-90 if it has the right rocker in the hull and if it is Kevlar construction. Carb engines are going to be a pain around the docks with Blackhawks. Those engines are probably in the 475-550 hp range. With a p29 you will need at least 550 to break 100mph. Interesting boat though. Would love to know the story behind it.

Carbs are not an issue with Blackhawks. I have carb 383 mercy crate motors. The huge props are the problem. The boat moves with big wheels at idle. Maybe once or twice a year I have a stahl while docking. Armstrong could help with speeds. He has big power in his.

Yes but with those blowers surging is a big problem with prolonged idling. I had that same blower on a 400 sbc for years in my old scarab. Boat was fast but it would have been a pain with a Blackhawk.

WelfareRacing on here has one of the Scarab Racing school boats. He has twin BBC I think pushing 750 hp and I think he gets 90 mph out of it, but he has bravo's on his.

Anyway it can't be the same boat (93-02 29 scarab) we all are referring to because that 29 has 7,6" beam and they only put small blocks in them from factory as twins and a single big blocks.
I have seen one custom 29 that had big blocks
my 30 panther i have twinn bbc 550hp and runs 87mph and extra 400hp would put me into the century mark i would hope.
