Default More HP in 7.4 MPI's?

Hi,

I just bought a 1996 Baja 322 Boss. It has the 7.4 MAG, carbed, I think they have 365 hp each. The problem is that I desperatly want MPI engines, since the fuel economy is better, and they are more up to date.

So I found a pair of the ordinary 7,4 MPI, the 310 HP engine. But I don't want MPI's so bad I am willing to lose 100 HP. So, is there an easy way to get more power from the 310 HP engine?

I would love to swap for a of pair 496 Mag MPI HO, but they seem to be very, very pricey compared to what I will get for my carbed ones.

Any thoughts or ideas from you?

Regards,

Johan

All you have to do is buy the 310 hp 7.4 then replace the crank, rods, pistons and heads with the ones from the mag motor(dont forget to upgrade the cam, lifters and springs), then buy some dyno time and have the ECM tuned. Nothing to it

With the engines in question, MPI is only a lot better if you have remote start.

Going down tothe 310 hp motors to try to mod for an extra 100hp, is well, like Phragle demonstrated, a waste of time / $.

You could add a Holley FI system to your mag's if you really desire EFI.

I have a complete set of mpi setups off my 502s. Uppers, lowers, harnesses, Ecms and the electrical boxes. It's totally complete. $500 each. Bolt these on your long blocks.

In a correctly tuned engine, Carb vs MPI fuel economy is minimal. Maybe 5-10%

So, I bought these, thanks ICU!

Does anyone know if the 7,4 Mag MPI with 385 HP is the same engine internally as my 7,4 Mag with carbs and 365 hp?

Johan
