Setting the base timing on rebuilt 500 EFIs???
I started this new thread off of my older one. (Is my 500 efi done for the year? Got hot and now hard to start.) So my motors have been totally rebuilt and reinstalled and I am to the point of starting and timing them. So if I understand the process correctly you can place a jumper wire in between the plug terminals A & B. Than start the motor and set the timing to 10 degs. Which would be the middle timing mark on the damper wheel. Once that is done lock down the distributer and remove the jumper wire and reinstall protective cap. Than the computer should take over and the third mark should come in at 3600 RPMs.

I doubt a third mark wil come in at 3000 rpms when not in diagnostic modes as it will depend what timing and map table its hitting, at 3000 a 500 efi can have as much as 34 or as little as 27 , at least looking at the tune I have on the computer im on right now, the timing changes as map ie load changes, Smitty
