I don't believe there are any differences on how the filters mount, but I'm sure there are between the filtration rates. In taking with WIX the "R" indicates race. meaning that the flow rate is much higher on those. The downfall to this is a significantly lower filtration rate. With a race filter the idea is to change the oil and filter after every few hours or runs. Now I cannot say that I did that when I ran the wix, as I would go the whole season.

35-16595Q and 35-16595 are the same filter. One is stickered Mercruiser and the other is stickered Quicksilver.
Quicksilver stuff can be sold at Non Merc retailers/dealers.
Don't know anything about the specific Wix you posted.
