How to refinish Kiekhaefer controls?
I've got an 89 Formula with Kiekhaefer controls. The paint on them is worn off the tops of the sticks and I've noticed that pretty much every ad I've seen, similar age with the same throttles and shifters has the same problem. What's the best way to get them looking new again? What paint would you use?

Mine were black and the paint was peeling off. When I took them apart I found some corrosion. I sand blasted them and had them powder coated white. I just took them back apart to put a switch on them to trim the drives. You might think about that while you have them apart. Good luck, Doug

Actually I was hoping for a paint solution, but I guess powdercoating could work too. Mine aren't really peeling, it like the paint is just worn off the knobs at the top. Any secrets to removing the red circle inserts in the knobs??

If all you want to do is the top of the knobs. Take a fine piece of sand paper (emery cloth) and a six pack and sit down and start sanding the knobs it will leave it a nice and shiny natural metal color. Then spray with clear, a couple of coats (let dry between them). And it will look great and cost about $16 including the beer.
I did it and it worked good.

I just did mine on my Top Gun. I had alot of stuff stripped and powdercoated, but the trottles couldnt be done because the top of the units have plasticin them. I sand blasted them and sprayed them with Imron. You cant tell the difference between the paint and the powdercoating
