Default Can the power steering pump be mounted on the other side?

I am having some issues with trying to get a hatch lift into my boat. The Power steering pump is in the way. Also with the pump on the side it is currently on, the hoses for the hydrolic helm have to be a bunch longer and it will look like hell. So I was wondering about mounting the steering pump on the other side of the engine above the raw water pump. Does anyone know of a set up to do this? Otherwise I can put the pump on my port engine but that means even longer hoses, and at 4+ bucks a foot I want them as short as possible. Thanks for the help.

Jon

Mine is mounted above the see pump. I think thats the way all the early ( 85 ) 454's are but I could be wrong. Good luck, Doug

Anything is doable. It sure would be alot of work as the brackets proably would need to be custom fabbed. Every BBC that I've ever seen has the pump in the stock location. This is because the steering gear was always on that side. Now, maybe if you could find some brackets from an engine where the wheel was on the opposite side...

You have to move it to the starboard side when adding a Procharger, so I don't see why you can't.

I was thinking of putting one on both of my engines. At low rpm, it doesn't want to power much. Also, it seems whenever I stall an engine, it is always the one with the ps pump. Has anyone installed them on both engines?

Can't put on both, pick one side or the other.... they will conflict with each other
