My dad boat the eng. on port side was not getting water to motor. Put new impeller and pump flushed eng. Still no water . Was wondering what the "HOSE" to the impeller pump was for . 1989 OMC CORBA

are you talking about the one in the top of the pump housing , comes out and turns 90 deg , then down? that is to vent any trapped air in the pump housing so it can fill with water and self prime if air ever entered. if air is trapped it would not likely be able to pump the air out of the pump enough to get the water started.
did you use grease on the new impeller? you should only use liqiud soap, grease will damage the impeller.

if it is still out of the water take the pump apart remove the impeller, go inside the engine compartment and disconnect the water inlet hose at the transom assembly and attatch a gardn hose there and test run the engine that way. this eliminates the pump as a problem. at that point you would have to look into the rest of the cooling system for the problem. it also could be you exhaust cooling passaqges are plugged, but one thing at a time.

Yes that is the hose I am talking about . the boat is in water . Talked to dad yesterday he said everything was fine now. So maybe their was air in the pump. Thanks very much..
