Default How do I ship an engine?

Thanks guys!

I followed the advise I got on another thread and instead of rebuilding my engine, I bought an engine from an OSO member. The engine is in Iowa and I am in Fort Lauderdale. I have gotten lots of different prices for shipping. What is the best way to ship it? Time doesn't matter to me at all.

Thanks

Common carrier (trucking company) is the only way that'll go. UPS and FedEx won't touch it, too heavy.
Just make sure you arrange to pick up at their docks because they may help you load it in your truck. If it's shipped direct to your house, you'll be responsable for finding a way to get it off the trailer when it arrives.

Baja,

I ship alot of engines and have found ABF to be the cheapest. Try this link to get an online quote.

Default Engine shipping

I have shipped a few, I usally buy a Cheap engine
(cradle) from like Northern Hydralics/ equipment.

They are around $30.00, they bolt up to your
front engine mount and the rear flange of the engine
where your flywheel housing would normally be.

This stand allows you to remove the 4 wheels and lag bolt
it to a skid through the holes you just took the wheels out of. Your oil pan will be an inch above the skid.
so this keeps your center of gravity real low.

Also most trucking lines like the oil removed from the engine.

I have used ( CCX ), ( RoadWay ), and ( Holland Freight )
and it has never been above $300.00.

call CCX and use this code:

Item# 120790 sub2
Class 70

1-616-698-6565 Phone Number

It is also cheaper if you go to there terminal and pick it up.

Good luck

Check out www.highwayfreight.com They're quick with quotes and are very, very cheap. Your best price will be found shipping from either a place of business or a terminal. Residental shipping adds hundreds to both ends.

Thumbs up

I purchased an engine from Lee on the Boards and I used Bax, they were much cheaper than the other freight companies. If you can get your hands on a mercruiser crate, they work pretty well.

Hey Cougarman, how is your project going? Any pictures yet? You sold me an inner transom plate last year.

Gene, we are in Pompano and ship / issue pick ups every day, let me know the zip code and weight I will see what we can get it to our shop for. But the residential pickup thing is a problem as Cord says, make sure he can drop it at a terminal or has a place to load it.
