Question alpha gear ratio ?

if I have a 1.84 drive and use the lower section of a 1.98 drive is my ratio still 1.84 ? I heard the gearing is in the top and if i use the lower it will be the same as my 1.84 is this true?

the gear ratio in an alpha drive is changed in the upper.the lowers are all the same
