Question Installing Lightning headers on 502MPI.

OK, I am getting ready to install a set of Lightning headers on a 2000 Sunsation 288. I am looking for tips, hints and tricks so I don't have to reinvent the wheel doing this. The biggest issue I see is relocating the shifter bracket (I know where I will put that), the ECU and the oil filter.

If anyone has any tips on this type of install, all input is much appreciated!

Also, if anyone has pics of their experience, I would love to see them. [email protected]

Almost forgot, standard Bravo setup, no silent choice and straight bolt on replacement.

The engine will lean out with headers and you will have to increase the fuel rail pressure to compensate. Once you do that it will run well.

I will try to get you some pics tomorrow. I had lightning put on theVelocity a about three years ago. Can't remember all the details but some brackets were fabrcated. I had Precision Marine redo the ECU to prevent any lean condions. He also Advanced the timing and set it up to run a 140 degree thermostat. Have to use premium gas but runs like a bandit.

There's one bolt on each side you have to install first or you will not be able to get it in. I can't remember which one, but they make mention of it in there literature. I've had mine for 1 1/2 seasons now and love them. Like Dennis said you will want to add a fuel pressure regulator. I got mine from Vortech. Good luck.

If you get the small head 6pt ARP bolts, the headers are a cinch to install. They're not the worst with the standard bolts that comes with them.

Thanks guys. As for the lean condition, I have heard both sides. One camp says no problem with the stock 502 Mag MPI, the other says get the ECU reprogrammed.

Is anyone running this setup without fuel/ecu modifications?

I've ran both ways, I had a 1997, that leaned out, and I had AZ speed remap the ecu, and a 99 that seemed to be fine, ran great and the plugs had good color

I have the adj fuel pressure regulator from Vortech, I'll sell for 60.00 shipped to you, I bought it for my 99 and did not need it

I might take you up on that offer. I am going to see how it runs this weekend. Mine seems to run a bit rich to begin with so it might not be a problem.
