he is correct. but OMC outboards have an optional powetr steering system that is belt driven by the flywheel. the piston and shuttle valve are mounted on the front of the engine and uses a single push pull steering cable. Also there is an aftermarket power steering availible using an electric hydraulic pump (looks like a merc trim pump). fyi

actually there is a tank ussually close to the helm. At that tank there is a valve like you have on your bike tire. You preasureize the system with a bike pump and this helps with the turning a bit. They are a LOT more turns lock to lock.

My reply is at the same time as Mrv8's I have no knowledge of the systems that he is talking about so who knows. Just how the old race boat was set up and all the other outboard boats that I have used over the years
