Default B1 trim adjustment

Yesterday I was trimming the boat up and noticed it wouldn't come up very far....it had been working fine all weekend till then. I got home and adjusted the trim stop and now it's coming up like it should. My question is why did I have to change the trim stop? It's always worked fine and never been adjusted till now so something must have happened, correct?

the trimlimit switch can go bad.
BUT I would check the bolt behind it. i redid mine this year because the bolts were rotating. two of them ( one each drive) had actually stripped. i redrilled a larger hole. inserted a stainless helicoil, and reinstalled the bolt to the proper torque.

make sure the bolt will hold 150 ft-lbs of torque. that is my guess what may have happened.

keep us posted

not sure as to what you mean by the switch? The bolt may have rotated but I'm not sure where to check this.

I think Rambunctious is
referring to the what I call the
hinge pin, ( the tilt pivot axis)
the trim limit sender and the
trim position sender ( for the gauge)
are driven by the rotation of these
pins, when the drive is trimmed/tilted.
I've seen the hinge pins work loose,
this will allow the senders to get out of
proper operating range.

Just remove the sender from the side of
the gimbal ring, the pin will tighten up
with an allen socket, but I would remove the pin,
and inspect the threads, if ok, add a dab of
loctite on thr theads and reinstall.

You also may want to check the plastic
wear strips on the drive, where the gimbal
ring flanges mate up against.
If these are missing, that can put additional
torque on the hinge pins.

Yep, what jt........ said (what a long logon name jt)
trim limit switch --- i really meant trim limit sender. take the two small screws out , then slide the trim limit sender off.
it rotates via the allen head bolt behind it which is suppose to be fixed to the drive but can get loose.

check to the 150 ft-lbs spec and let us know
otherwise, wires can get cut from turning and getting pinched too, or the sender is bad as i mentioned.

add some antiseize to those small screws too. i had a bugger and a very sore palm getting one out.!!!! came really close to trashing the head then would have been really stuck.

just some advice from my experience this summer
good luck

still a little confused. Ok I check the allen bolt on the drive itself right....to make sure it's tight.

by the way...none of the screws on the outside of the sender were loose....I had to adjust it though so the drive would come up....this still does not make any sense.
