Default Mecury Racing 500 hp small blocks

Digging through some old Merc brochures I see that Merc had offered a 372 ci 500 hp samll block back in 1988 It made 500+ hp at 6600rpm Siamese bore 12.5:1 compression and aluminum heads, solid roller valve train and a 1050 Holley and the only drive options were Speedy III and IV Bore was 4.125 and stroke of 3.48

What a funky set up!

With today's technology, I'd think you could do that on pump gas, with the right set up, naturally aspirated, and definitely more than that with a blower.
