Default Whipple 496 Ho

I am curious how long in hours do other board members or the Guys from whipple think the 496 HO will run if you don't beat on it all the time and do proper maintenance,I have just over 100 hrs on the boat know it is a 2003 Magic cat and I want to get at least 350hrs on it before I havevto do any thing internal. Thanks for your input

The Whipple screw supercharger is a beautiful piece. With their intercooler and a computer reprogram they do, these motors will make close to 600HP easy. They only boost about 5-6 lbs, so if you don't beat the motor you should get reasonable engine life, just make sure you don't misprop the boat to get more speed and over rev this engine. It has pretty week valve springs, heavy valves, cast pistons and a thin ring package that won't take over reving and long durations of boost without possible damage. Raylar

Raylar are you sure you're not referring to the 496 mag? I thought the HO version had all the beef...

Hey Rick,
The 496 Mag and the 496H0 have all the same internals, except the cam and valve springs. Both engines have the same heads, cast pistons and ring packages, with cast cranks and forged rods. Some of the early 496Ho's got the forged cranks, but most don't.
The fuel and spark curves are calibrated with the cam change to bring the 375HP Mag up to the 425HP level.
Our new aluminum "bigpower" 8.1-496 heads are premiering at the Miami show and will start shipping in late March.
