Default Velvet Drive Catch Can

I am told that if you run Velvet Drive tranny's at extended duration above 4500-5000 rpm or so, it's common for them to spew ATF out of the vent. My unused, rebuilt V/D's have windage trays, extra Raybestos Blue clutches and steels, etc , with the black spring, and I want to be sure I don't have any problems. I was thinking that simply replacing the spring loaded vent with a 1/8" pipe-adapter AN fitting, -06 or -08 AN hose, and vented hot-rod style power steering reservoir mounted above the tranny would allow any overflow to accumulate at higher rpms, but also allow for drain back.

I have also been told that it is important to mount the tranny cooler lower than the tranny sump to ensure there are no drain back problems resulting in spewing ATF, incorrect fluid level readings, etc.

Does my catch can and cooler mounting strategy sound sufficient?

We use merc's trans. expansion bottle kit, but yours will work too. Far as the cooler goes we usually mount them right behind the sea water pump below the exhaust manifold. We find with cooler drain back it just gives you an improper oil level reading after the engine is off and has been sitting for awhile.

Marinetrans,

Do you know the part number for the Merc expansion bottle kit?

Thank you Marine Trans. If I go this route, do you sell them, if so, got a contact number?

Anyone using these on your Velvet Drives, if so, got a picture of what it looks like and how it's mounted?

You can get it from any Merc OSO advertiser or I can get them (Merc dealer too). Or try a local Merc dealer w/ that number. PM me if you want.
