I'm looking into a 2001 28 Daytona TD with twin 496 HO Mags - Bravo I XZ's - no boxes. Anybody familiar with how this boat and engine package honestly performs? Speed, handling, planing. The seller claims 94 gps and that sounds great, but almost too good to be true. Any pros or cons on this boat would be appreciated.

Would ext. boxes, nose cones, lab props, or shorties be worth the extra money? If so, which one or more combinations would give the best bang for the $.

I would be pumped to get a strong 95 mph boat with 4 passengers and 3/4 fuel with minor mods.

94 sounds very reasonable for the 28 w/496HO. Last week we tested the same boat w/non HO motors. It ran a solid 89 with 3 people on board and 1/2 fuel and stock Hydromotive QIVX's, 29 pitch@4900 rpm. Best we saw was 89.6 but would run 89 no problem.

With the stock 5 blade Hydromotive P5X it ran 88.2 (same as stock Bravo 1 30's). The P5X turned out to be a fantastic prop as the boat would get on plane with no "blow out" at all and had the same top end as the Bravo 1.

With the 496 HO our customers claim 93 or 94 with stock Bravo 1 30's. With some work I'm sure you could get this boat to run mid 90's.

I have a 28 Daytona with 500EFI's. The drives are high and it has run a best of 98 with me and 1/2 fuel turning labbed 33 bravo's IN. It will run 95mph with 30 bravos but is all over the rev limiters. The 33's are a little too much prop and I think the boat would run an honest 100 with some 31's or 32's. I have not tried any other props yet. With 5 people in the boat (all men), 1/2 fuel, and about 85 degrees the boat ran 93 mph with the 33's. With the 30's it would have run 95 (rev limiter)

I will be installing Imco boxes and 2" shorties next month and hope to find 5-7 mph through set-up and prop combo.

Depending on how high your drives are (Eliminator puts them in everywhere) I would expect low 90's as it sits.

The 28 TD is a great all around boat. Mine does not have a flap and NEVER porposes anywhere. Is very good in "sloppy afternoon chop" on lakes and is easy on drives because the boat is relatively light. I run mine very hard and had no drive issues last season (stock Bravo HP's with leading edge lowers) I will be converting to XZ top gears, putting on Billet marine caps, and Teague prop shafts when I do the above mods for an even stronger set-up. The only places 28's tend to have problems is with breaking stock prop shafts.

Are you looking @ the 28 Marty has @Midwest? If so, it looks like a nice boat.

Yes- that's the boat at Martys...

As you can see by throttle up's response and your set up, the 28's must vary widely in performance depending how they're set up.

I'm actually going in on it with my father, as he likes the cats as well. We've never actually owned one, but have ridden in many. Ya gotta start somewhere. We're pretty excited about it. We'll be running it on the Missouri River (Omaha) and LOTO. Towing might be another issue.

Any other info would be great.

I rode and drove a 28 daytona with 496 mag engines, 4 adult men 1/2 tank fuel and a gps it ran 87.2 mph, so the ho's should get you to mid 90's, the boat is a great ride you will not be disappointed with it in any way, buy it[if the price is right]

The 28 LP is a very nice looking boat IMO. Here is one that is for sale over on the HotBoat board. Badass boat!!
