Default Leaking dipstick tube.

My dipstick tube is leaking...err, the one on my motor, where it pushes into the pan. It seems "Bubba" tried to fix the leak previously with Permatex.

What is the proper procedure for fixing this leak permanently?

Also, how do I know my pan's capacity? Manual says 6 qts., but previous owner says 8 qts. Can rely on dipstick, as it has been cut short. Pan, at its deepest point, is about 10". Motor is 330/454 Mercruiser.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, clean throughly, reinstall the tube into the pan and then fill that with RTV solid. Let dry. Don't forget the o-ring on the bottom of the tube. Never had one leak yet.

Hmm...this could have something to do with the leak. It seems "Bubba" didn't install the o-ring.
