Default Bravo Drives? 1 Or 3?

I will be replacing my bravo 1's this summer. I have a 29 formula cruiser with twin 454's Is their any gain in performance with the bravo 111, I have heard that with through hub exaust the bravo 111 restrict's the 454's.

Formula29:

Bravo III's are better for bigger heavier boats that need extra push to get them up on plane easier, however they will cut top speed on your boat probably about 5 mph and they are slightly more exhaust restrictive on through the prop exhaust only.

The exahust restriction is easy to fix. Mercury issued a service bulletin a few years ago on this issue. Simply replace the exhaust "bellows" with an exhaust "tube". The tube is a Mercury part. With the tube, there is not an airtight seal where it connects to the outdrive. It allows more exhaust gases to escape.

B3 isn't particularly stronger than a B1.

The advantage is that a B3 has no steering torque (which is a non issue in a twin application since the two drives cancel each other out), and a much better BITE on the water. Low speed response at idle speeds is far improved, and prop slippage coming out of the hole is no longer a problem.

Disadvantages are: expensive props. well documented corrosion problems in saltwater. expensive props. and expensive props.
