what is the difference between surfaces drives and regular drives. are surface drives better

It depends on what you want the boat to do?.... are you building a tug boat? or Something to go fast?...

I HAVE A 42' EXCALIBUR EAGLE OFF SHORE
HAVE SEEN SOME BOATS ADVERTISED WITH SURFACE DRIVES. SOME PEOPLE SAY YOU GET MORE SPEED FROM THEM. IS THIS TRUE, AND CAN A BOAT BE RETRO FITTED WITH THEM, IF THEY ARE FASTER. RUNNING 454'S
