Default #3 to #6 swap

Are there any way to swap a #3 drive with a #6 drive without filling and recutting the transom ? I was thinking extension boxes or something like that ?
Also can it be done the other way around aswell ?

I think it would be easier to fill in the old holes and start with a fresh uncut transom.

You are probably right but I donīt want to cut and fill since in my opinion it will never be as strong as a transom with just the original holes ?
