Default Water Temp / Oil Pressure warning alarm

I was just reading about someone else's misfortune and thought a warning horn or alarm to detect low oil pressure and overheating would be a great thing to have. Does anyone sell an aftermarket device? Or, would it be easiest to rig something up?

There is pre-made system available at West Marine or almost any catalouge outfit---thnk it's Teleflex or Sierra.

With the motor shut off, turn the key(s) to the on position but do not start it. In about 5 seconds you should hear the alarm if you have one.

Nope guys. Mine is an '85 357. Definitely no alarm in this one.

However, there are two red indicator lights that someone wired in to the dash. I haven't tested those yet. Either way I don't want to rely on a light. I'd much prefer a loud siren or horn. I hope I'd be able to hear it above the exhaust. It's not the biggest or fastest. But, it is definitely the loudest Formula I've ever seen. I may have to look into some mufflers also if I start getting tickets.

Thanks Guys. The set up from West sounds good.

My friend works for Blk Thunder sales rep, and has the identical boat but 1988. Extra clean and a price to go with at 75,000. Been over a year and still has it.

Alarms are a must and a good idea to install.

I hate to say it but at 75k he's going to have it a lot longer. I paid 31k for mine (29k for the boat and 2k for the trailer). It's not in the greatest condition but just needed some TLC and clean up. It's a pretty nice boat and the engines are fresh (90hrs) 540hp 454s. The only bad thing is the TRS drives.

They are nice boats. I'm planning on having mine for a few years and then getting something newer. perhaps a Cig TG, 382 Formula or maybe a Fountain 42. Not sure. But, the deals are out there you just have to shop.

The alarms are a great idea. They just moved way up on my to do list after reading about the recent mosfortune in the Formula thread.
