Default Marine Ply Wood ????

I need to repair a bulkhead and my fire wall. What kind of wood should I use??? Would a top grade finished plywood coated in fiberglass & resin be fine????

The best plywood is the thin multi-ply birch with waterproof glue... but when you find out how much the stuff costs... you'll faint... that is why most boat builders just use CDX outdoor grade construction ply for their bulkheads.... Fiberglass resin isn't totally waterproof.. but the marine epoxies are closer to waterproof. I did some major repairs on a Fountain.. both bulkheads and areas in the cabin... they just used CDX and covered with resin from the factory. Good luck.

I used A-C Exterior to make bulkheads on My Project Boat from Hell. At $20.00 a sheet it is affordable. It has one good side and fewer inclusions than cdx.

If you want the best use Okumee (sp) It is a Marine Mahogony. If you want a step down just Marine Plywood. Cheapest is the CDX and others. I am using all Okumee in my boat but at 180 a sheet it is expensive. However with Mahogony it will be MUCH more resistent to water absorption.
